Service Management and Service Engineering – Lecture and Exercise

General notice

The lecture and exercise as well as the written exam for this module take place regularly in the summer semester. In addition, we offer a written exam in the winter semester based on the material from the previous summer semester. SMSE is not actively tutored in the winter.

Course Content

The course provides an overview of methods and models for the development, management, and delivery of services as well as insight into basic concepts of the research field of service science. In addition, current trends in IT-enabled services will be presented.

Learning Objectives and Skills

Students will

  • be familiar with basic concepts of service research,
  • understand the importance of IT artifacts for service management,
  • can apply methods and models of service engineering to design business models, elicit requirements, explore processes, and plan marketing concepts,
  • can apply methods and models of service management to measure service quality, and
  • learn about current application areas of service research and practice (for example, digital platforms and smart services).
